1 Describe the situation Identify the event or trigger you expect to be difficult.
2 Name likely emotions and urges Predict what you may feel and what you may want to do.
3 Choose coping skills Select skills that fit the situation.
4 Imagine coping effectively Mentally rehearse yourself using the skills and getting through the situation.
5 Plan practical supports Prepare anything that would make skill use easier.
6 Follow up afterwards Review what worked and what you might adjust next time.

Example

You have a stressful appointment tomorrow. You imagine arriving, noticing anxiety, using paced breathing, asking your questions, and taking a short break afterwards.
