Turning the Mind
Repeatedly choose acceptance.
Purpose
Helps you return to Radical Acceptance whenever your mind slips back into resisting reality.
What it Means
Acceptance is rarely a one-time decision. Turning the Mind is the repeated act of choosing acceptance again and again.
How to use it
1
Notice resistance
Become aware that your mind is arguing with reality.
2
Choose acceptance
Make a deliberate decision to accept this moment as it is.
3
Repeat as needed
Each time resistance returns, gently choose acceptance again.
Example
Throughout the day you keep thinking, "This shouldn't have happened." Each time you notice the thought, you gently return to, "It has happened, and now I choose how to respond."
Try It Now
- Notice one recurring resistant thought.
- Replace it with an accepting statement.
Tips
- Expect to turn your mind many times.
- Each return is progress, not failure.
Common pitfalls
- Expecting acceptance to last forever.
- Becoming frustrated that resistance returns.
